The news director of American public radio NPR has resigned following funding cuts from the Trump administration.

Edith Chapin, NPR's news director, announced her departure after Congress approved the cancellation of $1.1 billion in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

Katherine Maher, NPR's CEO, praised Chapin's "strength of character" and referred to the internal crisis within the organization regarding allegations of bias.

Chapin's departure comes as the Trump administration seeks spending cuts in public media, including those aimed at foreign audiences.
