A gunman opened fire near the White House in Washington, D.C., following a confrontation with law enforcement officers. The incident resulted in two people being injured and a lockdown of the area for approximately 20 minutes.

According to the U.S. Secret Service, the incident began when a gunman engaged in a confrontation with officers. During the exchange of gunfire, the gunman was injured, and a bystander was also wounded by the shooter's fire.

The White House was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. President Donald Trump was in the building during the incident, but there was no disruption to his activities. Vice President J.D. Vance's motorcade had passed through the area shortly before the shooting, but there is no indication of a connection.

An adult male and a minor teenager were injured and transported to hospitals. Authorities assured that the situation was quickly brought under control and there is no broader threat.

The incident follows a shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on April 24, where a Secret Service agent was injured.
