Rushdie Warns Against Political Violence in the US

Author Salman Rushdie warns against rising political violence in the US, three years after he was attacked. Speaking at the Sundance Film Festival, he linked his personal experience to a broader concern about unbridled violence and hostility towards culture.
Rushdie presented the documentary Knife: The Attempted Murder of Salman Rushdie at the festival, based on his book about the 2022 attack. The attacker had expressed opposition to Rushdie's book, The Satanic Verses.
Rushdie stressed that violence threatens not only himself but also institutions such as journalism, universities and literature. He also referred to Donald Trump's attacks against the media and academic institutions.
The author concluded that his film is timely, as everyone feels the danger of violence today.
