A small private aircraft with eight people on board crashed and burst into flames while taking off from an airport in the state of Maine, USA, the FAA announced. The fate of those on board remains unknown.

The twin-engine Bombardier Challenger 600 crashed at Bangor International Airport at approximately 7:45 PM (local time). The FAA and NTSB are preparing to conduct an investigation.

A government official told Reuters that a large fire broke out after the crash, as the aircraft was full of fuel. There was a small amount of snow falling in the area, but it has not been clarified whether weather conditions played a role in the crash.

The aircraft had arrived in Maine from Texas. The owner of the aircraft is Arnold & Itkin.

According to FAA records, the aircraft had entered service in April 2020.
