Texas: Judge Blocks Law on Ten Commandments in Schools

A federal judge in Texas has blocked the implementation of a law that would have allowed the Ten Commandments to be displayed in all state schools.
Judge Fred Biery issued a preliminary injunction following a lawsuit filed by families of students of different faiths. According to the judge, the law is unconstitutional and favors Christian denominations.
Rabbi Mara Nathan and Rachel Laser welcomed the decision, emphasizing the importance of the separation of Church and State and religious freedom.
A similar law was blocked in Louisiana in November, as it violated the First Amendment of the Constitution.
In 1980, the Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional a Kentucky law regarding the posting of the Ten Commandments in school classrooms.
