A driver died while attempting to break a speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. 60-year-old Chris Rushke, an experienced racer, was killed when he lost control of his vehicle, known as Speed Demon, approximately four kilometers into the run.

Rushke was traveling at speeds exceeding 450 km/h when the accident occurred. Despite immediate medical attention at the scene, he succumbed to his injuries. Land speed racing has been a tradition at Bonneville for decades, drawn to its flat, white surface.

For safety reasons, spectators are positioned approximately 300 meters away from the race tracks.
