Trump: Tariffs Saved America from Destruction

Donald Trump responded to a court ruling that deemed US tariffs illegal, arguing that they saved the country from destruction.

Following the US Federal Court of Appeals decision, Trump stated via Truth Social that "Without Tariffs, the Country would have been completely destroyed." He also stated that "ALL TARIFFS REMAIN IN PLACE" despite the ruling.

Tariffs have been used by the US as a means of economic and foreign policy, with the most recent example being the imposition of tariffs on Brazil.

The Federal Court of Appeals ruled that Trump does not have the legitimacy to impose taxes on imports using "economic emergency powers," as these powers belong to Congress.

Trump believes that tariffs harm exporting countries, but studies show that they also burden American consumers.
