Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, stated that there was information about a possible escalation in the Middle East region in the last 24 hours. The statements were made amidst the ongoing tension and meetings of the National Security Council.

Speaking on Alpha Kalimera, Mr. Letymbiotis stressed the need to re-evaluate developments and measures taken. Regarding the British Bases, he reiterated that the Republic of Cyprus is limited to a humanitarian role, while the UK government has rejected any involvement of the Bases in the conflict.

Regarding the possibility of closing the Straits of Hormuz, Mr. Letymbiotis noted that such a development could affect global trade. The government's economic team is constantly assessing the situation and considering possible measures at EU level to address potential impacts.

Regarding the terrorist attack in Damascus, Mr. Letymbiotis called it heinous and stressed the need to protect religious freedom. Instructions were given to the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Cyprus in Damascus to visit the site of the tragedy.

Nicosia remains a humanitarian hub, according to the Government Spokesperson.
