Stefanos Stefanou Re-elected as AKEL's General Secretary

Stefanos Stefanou has been re-elected as the General Secretary of AKEL during the party's 24th Pancyprian Regular Congress in Nicosia. According to AKEL, he received 810 votes, with 781 delegates voting in favor (96.4%) and 29 expressing opposition (3.6%).
In his speech after his re-election, Mr. Stefanou emphasized the importance of a strong AKEL to promote progressive change in Cyprus. He expressed his gratitude for the trust shown by the delegates and underlined the responsibility he feels towards the party and society.
Mr. Stefanou referred to the need for peace in Cyprus and the world, especially after recent developments in the region, such as the US strike in Iran. He reiterated AKEL's commitment to resolving the Cyprus issue and reunifying Cyprus, with the aim of a common homeland for all Cypriots.
In addition, AKEL's General Secretary spoke about protecting society from high prices and social injustices, as well as the need to create opportunities for young people to stay and create in Cyprus. Finally, he referred to the danger from the rise of the far right and stressed that AKEL will resist any attempt to revive dark pages of history.
Mr. Stefanou described AKEL's 24th congress as a substantial participation of the party's members, with rich dialogue and decisions that will lead to actions and interventions in society.
