The Police Headquarters is on alert following the arrest of an Azerbaijani man allegedly involved in espionage and terrorism. According to reports, the detainee is not cooperating with the authorities and denies all charges.

The Azerbaijani, holding a British passport, allegedly collected information and photographed sensitive locations, including the British Bases in Akrotiri and Andreas Papandreou Airport in Paphos. Authorities are examining the evidence found in his apartment.

Sources from Cyprus Times report that the suspect entered Cyprus through an airport with regular documents and settled in the Zakaki area since April 2025. Furthermore, it is reported that this was not his first visit to the country.

Following the latest developments in the Middle East and the arrest of the Azerbaijani, the police have increased security measures, reinforcing roadblocks and increasing potential targets. Instructions have been given for intensive checks at the entry points of the Republic.

Professional cameras, electronic equipment, laptops, mobile phones, camera tripods, lenses, and GPS devices were found in the suspect's apartment. The suspect allegedly acted as a "lone wolf" and sent information abroad, while keeping handwritten notes on foreign military presence at the Akrotiri Bases.
