President of Cyprus Meets with Han to Discuss Cyprus Issue

A meeting between the President of Cyprus and Mr. Han took place in a positive atmosphere, focusing on efforts to restart negotiations regarding the Cyprus issue.

The President of Cyprus expressed hope that with the support of the EU and the United Nations, a solution to the Cyprus issue could be found, emphasizing the EU's supportive role towards the UN, not as a replacement. He also mentioned the importance of the European Commission President's decision to appoint an envoy for Cyprus, as an indication of the EU's interest in resolving the Cyprus issue.

Mr. Han assured that he has a clear mandate from the EU and the European Commission to support the process under the auspices of the United Nations and to facilitate finding a solution. He pointed out the geopolitical situation in the region and the need for the EU to contribute to stability.

Mr. Han also stressed the need for good relations between member states and their neighbors and expressed his intention to address the Turkish neighbors to find common ground for a possible solution to the Cyprus issue. He stated that he would work towards a lasting solution, as the current situation has been ongoing for many years.
