Tatar Rejects Han's Appointment and Rules Out Talks

Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar stated that there will be no contact or talks with the EU-appointed Special Representative, as he considers the appointment an internal EU matter.
According to his statement, Mr. Tatar argues that the appointment of the Special Representative was made without the approval of the Turkish Cypriot side and is against their will, calling this step invalid for their side.
Tatar claims that President Christodoulides presents the appointment as a personal victory and tries to equate Han with the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguin, which he considers 'fiction' and disrespect for the work of the UN.
Furthermore, he argues that the EU is not part of the Cyprus settlement process and cannot be part of any equation without the approval of the Turkish Cypriot side. Mr. Tatar stressed that his side defends a vision of a solution based on sovereign equality and equal international status, and will not accept unilateral approaches.
Tatar added that the process for the 6 initiatives agreed in Geneva continues under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy, Maria Angela Holguin.
