Road safety concerns due to insufficient lighting

The issue of inadequate road lighting is under discussion in Parliament, following an initiative by DIKO parliamentary representative Panikos Leonidou and DISY MP Prodromos Alabritis in the Transport Committee.

Speaking on the Alpha Kalimera show, Mr. Leonidou stressed the danger caused by the lack of adequate lighting, especially on the highway, at entrances and exits.

He suggested installing photovoltaics on the highway median to provide lighting, questioning whether the safety of citizens outweighs the economic cost.

According to Mr. Leonidou, there is a two-phase decision: the first concerns the highway to Korno, for which the offer is being prepared, and the second concerns the road from Korno to Limassol, for which studies have been carried out and offers are being prepared. The completion of the process is expected by 2027.
