Paphos: 54-year-old falls victim to fake fine scam – Loses €1,600

A 54-year-old man in the Paphos district fell victim to a scam, losing €1,600, through a fake message for the payment of an out-of-court fine.

According to his complaint to the Police, the 54-year-old received a message on Sunday informing him of an outstanding payment for an out-of-court fine. Following the link in the message, he proceeded to pay 30 euros.

He then discovered that 1,605 euros had been illegally withdrawn from his bank account and transferred to an unknown account.
