Medical community mourns the death of Dr. Alkis Pierides

The Pancyprian Medical Association (PMA) has expressed its deepest sorrow for the death of Dr. Alkis Pierides, highlighting his pioneering role in the specialty of nephrology in Cyprus.

According to a PMA announcement, Dr. Pierides contributed decisively to the development of nephrological care in Cyprus, founding the first Hemodialysis Units in public hospitals and playing a significant role in the creation of the first transplant center.

His career was recognized internationally and domestically, with Dr. Pierides being a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, a member of the American Society of Nephrology, and honorary president of the Hellenic Nephrological Society. He was also honored by the University of Cyprus for his overall contribution.

The PMA bid farewell to him as a model doctor with ethos and integrity, emphasizing his human approach to patients and his contribution to public health. It expressed its condolences to his family and relatives, recognizing that his contribution will remain in the memory of the medical community.
