Lyon Relegated to Ligue 2 in Shock Decision

Lyon has been penalized with relegation to the second division of the French league, Ligue 2, following a decision by the Financial Control and Management Committee of French football (DNCG).

The French club had been warned about its financial situation, with debts reaching 200 million euros.

The relegation decision was announced on Tuesday (24/6). Lyon has the right to appeal and is expected to try to be vindicated.

If the decision remains, Lyon, which belongs to the investment group of American businessman John Textor and has won 7 championships, will be relegated for the first time since 1989.
