The four systemic banks of Greece have donated 14.5 million euros to repair the damage caused to the railway network by the "Daniel" and "Elias" storms. The donation aims to restore the section from Lianokladi to Domokos, a length of 40 kilometers.

The announcement was made at a meeting of representatives from the Hellenic Bank Association (HBA) and the four banks with Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis and Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Konstantinos Kyranakis.

According to the announcement, the projects will be implemented with specifications that ensure the resilience of the network and equipment to future natural disasters. Upon completion of the works, the Athens-Thessaloniki railway line will have fully functional signaling, remote control and ETCS.

The donation is part of a total donation of 50 million euros announced in the fall of 2023 by the banks to repair the damage from the floods in Thessaly.

The meeting was attended by, among others, the CEO of OSE Panagiotis Terezakis, the Deputy CEO of the Superfund Panagiotis Stamboulidis, as well as representatives of Alpha Bank, Eurobank, National Bank and Piraeus Bank.

Kostis Hatzidakis stated that the contribution of the banks is important for the rapid restoration of the network and the improvement of transport safety. Konstantinos Kyranakis thanked the HBA for its support in the restoration project.
