An alert has been issued following the leak of 16 billion passwords affecting accounts on Apple, Facebook, Google, Telegram, and GitHub. This leak is characterized as the largest data breach ever recorded.

According to Forbes magazine, the leak was detected as part of investigations that began in early 2025. Authorities believe the leak is the result of coordinated action by multiple hackers.

Researchers have discovered "30 exposed datasets containing tens of millions to over 3.5 billion records each." Vilius Petkauskas confirmed to Cybernews that the total number of records breached now stands at 16 billion.

These collections include billions of login credentials from social media, VPNs, programming portals, and user accounts of major vendors. According to researchers, this is new data, with the exception of a database of 184 million passwords.

Researchers warn that this leak is not just a recycling of old breaches, but includes new information that can be used for phishing attacks and account takeovers.

The leaked information includes URLs, login details, and passwords, opening the door to "almost every online service imaginable, from Apple, Facebook, and Google, to GitHub, Telegram, and various government services."
