On June 23, 2025, the DUTHSat-2, the first Greek CubeSat satellite, was launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base in the USA on a SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket.

The 7 kg satellite was designed and built by the Democritus University of Thrace in collaboration with Greek companies, as part of the National Micro-satellite Program with the support of the European Space Agency (ESA).

DUTHSat-2 will provide images and measurements for soil moisture and marine pollution, including oil spills and ship ballast water discharges. A new telemetry unit, the Essential TeleMetry and housekeeping (ETM), will also be tested.

The Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, stated that the launch marks the beginning of the Greek presence in space and strengthens the country's capabilities in civil protection, environmental monitoring and secure communication. Two more cubesats from Greek consortia are expected to be launched in November.

The National Micro-satellite Program is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund.
