The first Greek CubeSat, DUTHSat-2, was successfully launched on June 23, 2025, at 23:30, from Vandenberg base in the United States.

The launch was carried out by a SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket, as part of the Transporter-14 mission, within the framework of the National Microsatellite Program and with the support of the European Space Agency (ESA).

The 7 kg satellite was designed and manufactured by the Democritus University of Thrace in collaboration with Greek companies. It traveled for approximately one hour and was released into orbit at an altitude of 510 km.

DUTHSat-2 aims to enhance the country's capabilities in Earth observation and secure space communication, providing images and measurements for soil moisture and sea pollution. Two more cubesats from consortia of Greek companies are expected to be launched in November.

The Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, stated that this is the beginning of the Greek presence in space, emphasizing the importance of the National Microsatellite Program.

The program is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund and is part of a national strategy for the utilization of space technologies.
